Biography
Call it Anti-Folk, Alt-Country, Acousti-Punk or by whatever hyphenated moniker you choose, Clint Coker is a Songwriter. He writes songs. He sings songs. Period. Born and raised in Ft. Worth, TX., he spent his early teens steeped in the regional music. Artists such as Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt, and Billie Joe Shaver rotated on his turntable as he learned his craft. It was a gift he received a few years later however, that had a radical affect on his songwriting style....A friend of mine gave me a cassette dub of the Dead Kennedys Frankenchrist album. After that, I was all about bands like Black Flag, the DKs, and that whole west coast hardcore thing. Also, I was listening to the Cramps, the Dead Boys, Social Distortion, pretty much any band that had lots of anger and mascara. In his late teens and early twenties, he handled lead guitar duty in a number of garage bands, before moving to Louisiana. Once there, he helped form an R&B outfit.
It was around 2000 that Clint picked up an acoustic guitar and returned to his roots, eventually emerging as a solo performer in late 2001. In late 2002, Clint released a live, solo album, What Do I Care? (Nervous City Records, out of print) and performed extensively around Louisiana before relocating to Austin. His lyrics weave woolly tales of misadventures in Mexico, Bad Night In Boys Town, become death-row diatribes, Velvet Days, take not-so-friendly jabs at the music industry, Just A Song, I Dont Care (If You Like This Song Or Not), and himself, The Rock God. All this is done with sly irreverence and tongue firmly planted in cheek, A second live recording,Clint Coker sings Meth Lab Blues and other hits. was released in late 2005 on the vThirteen record label.A new studio ep, MIDCRISISLIFE is now available.
