Lyle K'ang- All 3 Winnie (Best Actor) Awards Lyle K'ang was the lead in Rashomon as 'Tajimaru'. Awarded Annual Best Actor Award. Warehouse Theater - Yakima. WA. Lyle K'ang as 'Tajimaru' in Rashomon Lyle K'ang was the lead as the 'King' in the King and I. The audience called him 'King - K'ang'. Awarded The Best Actor Award, Warehouse Theater - Yakima. WA. During the tumultuous years of 1969 to 1972, Lyle K'ang was hand chosen to be the lead actor in the Hawaiian production of the hit Broadway musical, HAIR. HAIR - Lyle K'ang as 'Claude' sings 'Flesh Failures'. Because he could not play on the island of O'ahu, (many residents went up in protest against the show) he ended up playing at the Theater Royale in the plush Hilton International Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada for over a year. Here he is singing the tear-jerker, 'Flesh Failures' in the last act, towards the finale of the show on stage in Las Vegas. He was the only member in the show of 20 people that had completed his tour in the military before joining the show after standing in line and auditioning with over 1,500 people. He served in the U.S. Air Force for six years during the Vietnam era. He was a member of the base's elite honor guard which traveled more and more across the state of Idaho to bury it's war dead. He knew first-hand what it was to grieve so heavily. He watched and presented the 'colors' to grieving families for several years. In 1969 as the show opened in Las Vegas, and after a year later, the Las Vegas Tribe became the National Tour which opened itself to every major City throughout the continent where Lyle as 'Claude Hooper Bukowski' died every night. "The actors were a little thinner this time, the boys better muscled, the girls shaplier, the whole job a little more professional. And that didn't do the show a mite of harm...The most compelling performer was the lead himself, Lyle K'ang." At The Theater - Hair Once Again by E.S. New Haven, CT newspaper - circa September 12, 1971 He has favorite cities - New Orleans was his best city ever. He especially loved the way the crowd applauded by stamping their feet on the auditorium floor. The screams during a show was deafening at times. The mayor presented the 'key' to New Orleans to Lyle and his tribe. Kenny Ortega and Lyle K'ang. Kenny is performing 'Berger' in the Venus National Tour of HAIR. Lyle is kneeling as 'Claude'. Kenny is explaining the vastness of the universe to 'Claude', Lyle K'ang. HAIR closed in Nile, Chicago for Lyle in December of 1972. In 1973 Lyle auditioned for a 'Hawaii-5-0' episode as a favor to a friend and later turned down the roles as something he did not want to pursue. Hawaii-5-0 LYLE K’ANG Even after Jack Lord, the star of the show personally came to ask Lyle at the director's request. Lyle said he was not interested. He wanted to go back to the land and farm. After being on the road for four years, he was ready to settle down - just wanted to touch the earth - in other words, he wanted to smell the soil again.
