Biography
In the grand American songwriting tradition of Buddy Holly, Jackson Browne, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, and Steve Earle, MacNeill's soaring melodies and insightful lyrics are unforgettable. From driving rockers to acoustic ballads, his songs are built to last.

"David MacNeill has a cell-deep sense of how a great song should be structured and how the story should unfold. His melodies are natural with a quality of having been heard before even though they are original. The best thing about David's music is how it can come from so deep in his soul yet appeal to so many people." ~Bob Cheevers

I am a performing songwriter/guitarist/record producer from northern California now living in beautiful Boise, Idaho. I've been fortunate to have learned the art of songwriting from one of the greats, my friend and mentor for over two decades Bob Cheevers in Austin, Texas. We toured England and Scotland as a duo through the summer of 2007 and in summer 2008 we toured again but with me as the opening act. Recently we completed writing and producing a Bob Cheevers CD together entitled Fiona's World (Berkalin Records). Two of the songs, including the first song on the CD What I've Done For Love and the song Every Beauty I wrote alone. In January 2008 I released my first solo CD Morningtown.

People always ask me what kind of music I compose and it's difficult to answer in one breath. It's rock 'n roll like Buddy Holly and the Beatles, it's country rock like the Byrds and the Eagles, it's singer/songwriter like Jackson Browne and Warren Zevon, it's pub rock like Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds, it's uplifting like Bruce Springsteen and cynical like Elvis Costello, it's old school guitar rock like Tom Petty and the BoDeans, and it's acoustic alt-country/Americana like Steve Earle and Kevin Welch.

Hey, it's all rock and roll to me.
