The International Songwriting Competition (ISC) is pleased to announce its panel of judges for the 2017 competition. Established in 2002, ISC is the world’s largest songwriting competition, receiving entries from more than 130 countries.

  Consisting of some of the most iconic and respected artists in the world, the judging panel also includes top tier music industry executives, including Presidents and CEOs from record labels Sire, Glassnote, Razor & Tie, Concord Label Group, Elektra, S-Curve, Warner Music Nashville, Black River Entertainment, Alligator, Wind-Up, and more.

Reading Festival organisers to help tackle gender inequality in the music industry

The organisers of Reading Festival are on a mission to find and develop the country’s most promising female musicians.

Festival Republic has launched a new project called ReBalance, which provides up and coming female solo artists or bands with a week of studio time every month.

The ambitious initiative aims to tackle a lack of gender equality in the music industry.

Over the next three years, they will pay for their travel, accommodation and studio time and then look to give the best acts a slot at Reading or Leeds Festival or V Festival.

Pandora Names Roger Lynch New Ceo, Michael Lynton Joins Board

Pandora has hired Roger Lynch as CEO and president, and a member of its board of directors, effective September 18, 2017.

Naveen Chopra, who has served as Pandora’s interim CEO since June 2017, will continue in his role as chief financial officer.

Lynch was the founding CEO of US-based OTT television platform Sling.tv, which launched in 2015. At Pandora, he succeeds Tim Westergren whose tenure as CEO of the music service ended in June.

In addition, Pandora announced it has also appointed former Sony Corp exec and current Snap Inc. Chairman Michael Lynton to its board of directors.

3 things SoundCloud should do to stay afloat

SoundCloud gave music fans quite a scare last month when it laid off nearly half of its staff – people thought the indie music platform was going to go belly up in a matter of weeks. Luckily, it got a new lease of life last week when it scored a $170 million investment that should help keep the lights on for a good while.

The deal also mandated that CEO Alexander Ljung would be replaced by Vimeo exec Kerry Trainor; Ljung will stay on as chairman of the board, and Trainor will be joined by Vimeo’s Michael Weissman in the COO position.

Hopefully, that’ll make for some healthy changes in the way SoundCloud operates. But beyond just reshuffling upper management, there are a few things the company can do to stay alive, now that it’s starting a new chapter with a leaner team.
