News: Deal on Radio Royalties for Performers Falls Apart

One story that's largely escaped attention outside the music industry press is the recent breakdown of negotiations between the radio and music industries over whether radio stations should have to pay royalties to performers when they play their music. The House and Senate Judiciary Committees passed bills last year mandating the royalties, but top Republicans and Democrats on the panels didn't push the issue, instead telling the two sides to negotiate a deal or have one imposed on them legislatively.
