|
This video clip is a how-to guide especially for vintage synth owners. Ever
buy or dust off an old vintage keyboard like a Juno-6, SH-101, or a Korg 01/W,
and switch it on to find that you have missing sounds, or a display warning
you of a "battery error"? Indie-Music presents Gearwire's Joe Wallace as he
takes a screwdriver set to one of his vintage keyboards to troubleshoot this
very problem.

Keyboard: African-American Slave Songs and Spirituals Posted by Elizabeth Axford - on Saturday, March 05, 2005 @ 15:06:11 PST (15250 reads) Topic: Keyboards

Following is an excerpt from "Traditional World Music Influences in Contemporary
Solo Piano Literature" regarding "African-American Slave Songs and
Spirituals" in honor of Black History Month:
At the beginning of the nineteenth century, African-American music was already
established in oral tradition. A few early references to spiritual-like songs
sung by black slaves date back from about 1825-1850.
Black and white spirituals have many tunes and texts in common. Since both
blacks and whites mingled at the campmeetings, musical influences traveled back
and forth.

MuzikMan: Although I am sure there were many important events in your
life Jordan, can you remember one specific thing that happened that changed
your life forever and helped to get you where you are today?
Jordan Rudess: The first time I heard Patrick Moraz playing Mini Moog
on the "Refugee" album I knew I had to get a Mini Moog and learn to
solo like that!
My focus completely went into getting that instrument at that point!

Keyboard: Piano Music for Very Small Hands Posted by Elizabeth Axford - on Friday, January 10, 2003 @ 18:13:22 PST (7233 reads) Topic: Keyboards

Ever wonder when you see a young child performing at the piano how they learned
to play so well at such a young age? Is this child a prodigy or were they just
shown the right steps along the way so they know how to properly use their hands
and fingers? Prodigy... maybe... but not necessarily. Young children can be
taught to play the piano as young as three or four years old if they are given
the right guidance and encouragement, and asked to perform tasks they are capable
of doing. It is also very important to make sure that playing the piano is something
the child really wants to do, and not the parent's dream or wish that is being
imposed upon the child.

Following are ten interesting facts about acoustic pianos:
Although the average piano has about 230 strings, it is considered a percussion
instrument. The piano is considered a part of the percussion section in the
symphony orchestra. Each piano string has about 165 pounds of tension, with
the combined pull of all strings equaling approximately eighteen tons.

Keyboard: Patriotic Songs for the Piano Posted by Elizabeth Axford - on Friday, August 09, 2002 @ 23:16:48 PDT (27368 reads) Topic: Keyboards
| Patriotic songs are those inspired by the love for one's country and expressing
devotion to the service of one's country. While much of the patriotic music
we have heard has been performed by marching bands or military bands, there
are many sheet music arrangements available for piano. On the Internet there
are many Web sites devoted to patriotic music, with MIDI, RealAudio, and MP3
files of patriotic songs, most of which are in the public domain. Many of these
sites post the lyrics, and some link to printable versions of the American flag
and flag screen savers. Links to other patriotic music Web sites and to online
versions of important speeches and documents of the American government such
as the Declaration of Independence are also found. While some American patriotic
songs are associated with specific branches of the U.S. military and holidays,
they can be performed at any time during the year. Following are lists of patriotic
music Web sites, holidays, and songbooks, and an alphabetical listing of over
200 American patriotic songs and songs of inspiration.

now be found online and offline in retail stores and consumer catalogs along
with other home and professional electronic devices. A large variety of electronic
keyboards are available, suitable for most any budget. The accessibility, affordability,
and portability of electronic keyboards has caused them to find their way into
homes, schools, classrooms, churches, performance groups, and anywhere an electronic
keyboard might be used. They are found in every professional recording studio

Keyboard: Expanding Your Repertoire: Calendric Folk & Holiday Songs for Piano/Keyboard Posted by Elizabeth Axford - on Wednesday, December 19, 2001 @ 17:22:18 PST (6340 reads) Topic: Keyboards

Calendric folk and holiday songs mark major events in life or in the year's
cycles. Following these special events can help keyboard players choose appropriate
performance pieces for their clients, and help piano teachers structure their
use of supplementary pieces in the piano curriculum. The use of these songs
helps us to show respect for and carry on our cultural traditions. It is the
keyboard player's and piano teacher's responsibility to watch the calendar and
be prepared with the appropriate pieces and related materials as they are needed.

Keyboard: Piano and Keyboard Software Posted by Elizabeth Axford - on Tuesday, September 04, 2001 @ 03:29:40 PDT (10176 reads) Topic: Keyboards
| Having been a "live" piano/keyboard instructor for seventeen years, I still
believe there is no substituting a real teacher with an electronic one via
a computer software program. Ideally, piano/keyboard software programs are
used to supplement, not substitute, live instruction. And many offer the much
needed drill and review of basic keyboard theory fundamentals such as sight-reading,
note, interval and chord names, as well as an opportunity to hear polished
piano performances in a variety of styles. These interactive instructional
programs include ear-training drills, daily exercises, practice accompaniment
tracks and MIDI orchestrations, virtual keyboards, animation, videos, photographs,
text, graphics, printable scores and songbooks, and entertaining games.
