Quote: "Who knows, maybe unsuspecting listeners will learn a little bit about Greek mythology after listening to it a few times."
By Dan MacIntosh
The group calls what it plays mythic alternative trip-pop. There are traces of Goth, dance, and even a little rap found within this act’s ten-song effort. These songs don't read like typical pop song titles. Instead, mythological concepts come to mind with tracks like "Pandora’s Gift," "Adonis & Aphrodite," and "The Dionysian Discoteque." The three members to this outfit are Theophania, Forest, and James. Theophania is the most utilized singer in the band, and her pretty, yet distant vocals, spark many of these tracks.
Although the words to these songs bring to mind ancient Greek mythology, the music is nevertheless extremely modern. For instance, "Pandora’s Gift" features rapping. This project sounds like like a few well-read gothic college students got together to make a dance party record.
Mythos For The Masses is a well-crafted piece of work. And who knows, maybe unsuspecting listeners will learn a little bit about Greek mythology after listening to it a few times. Lord knows our world could use a whole lot more education.
