How Bands Can Save the Album

The music consumerís download-fuelled drift away from the album format has been well documented but, lately, itís been possible to see a number of artists following that exodus. Bands such as Bloc Party and Radiohead have begun to mirror the shift in listening habits by releasing individual songs almost on whim, and hinting publicly at their desire to move away from the traditional long player. Meanwhile, the indie mainstays Ash have abandoned the album altogether and embarked on a brave venture where fans buy a year-long subscription and receive a new song every two weeks.
