LimeWire Gives Up the Ghost, Shuts Down P2P Filesharing Client

Last spring, music file-sharing service LimeWire suffered a crushing blow in federal court. This is the net result: The company is shutting down its core software – though it insists it’s not doing that exactly. It's the victory the big music labels have been seeking for some time. The company says it will comply with a court injunction to turn off "the searching, downloading, uploading, file trading and/or file distribution functionality, and/or all functionality" of its software, which remains one of the most popular methods of finding free–and illegal–music on the Web.
